Grinshill is a small hill to the north of Shrewsbury.

It has been quarried for a high quality yellowish grey sandstone which is seen in buildings throughout the county.

This sandstone hill guards some of the best early dinosaur footprints that have been found in the county, including those of a Rhynchosaur. You can see the foot prints at Rowley’s House Museum in Shrewsbury!

This is the reason why the working quarry now contains an SSSI (click here to see the reasons for notification).
